East Pendam ecotourism zone is located in the East District of Sikkim. Three JFMC’s namely BUDANG-SAJONG JFMC, EAST PENDAM JFMC and PAKYONG JFMC are being selected as frontal institutions for ecotourism development in the zone under SBFP.
Nature Heritage Organic Farming
A cluster of traditional Himalayan villages set in the backdrop of Hills, Valleys, forests & agricultural field. Pendam in the East district of Sikkim is a visitor’s delight. Located at 200 mts above sea level, Pendam is easily accessible from state capital Gangtok at a distance of 45 KM and also from other important urban centers of Sikkim like Rongpo & Singtam. There are fruit orchards, agricultural lands, dread around East Pendam. Ecotourism Zone marked with human settlement. Budang village in Pendam has been acknowledged as one of the pioneering villages in the state that adopted organic farming practices and contributed immensely towards Sikkim becoming the first Fully Organic State Of India.

Experience the village life and community
Life, history & culture of people in the Himalayas has been an element of Tourism interest. Here a visitor can halt in home stays & experience the folklore & routine life of villages, enjoy local cuisines, entertain themselves in various traditional activities and cultural performance.


Organic Farming
Bring your family, friends and colleagues to organic farms of East Pendam Ecotorism Zone to experience and learn the intricate details of organic farming from Pioneers of Organic farming in Sikkim State. Visitors can join the farmers and educate themselves about different aspects of organic farming. and also can buy some of the organic products from here. Customized programs can be organized based on the needs and interests .

Cultural Tours
You can visit the nearby monastery, temples and traditional houses to explore and learn the cultural significances of the zone. Being a zone inhabited by members of different ethnicities and communities it is a great place to explore and understand the cultural attributes of them.


Bird Watching
East Pendam zone is rich in bird life with various species like the Black Eared Shrike, Blue Whistling Thrush, Chestnut – Bellied Nutchatch and Crimson Sunbird Etc. Be it an amateur or a professional birder, East Pendam ecotourism offers ultimate birding experiences.

Walk along the walls of Gadi (Heritage Walk)
One of the few heritage sites in Sikkim, a visit to Budang Gadi and the fort remains here offers the visitor a close encounter with Sikkim’s history and heritage. Along the trail the guide will help visitors to observe and appreciate local biodiversity like trees, plants, butterfly, birds, caves etc. At one of the highest points visitors could enjoy splendid view of valleys, rivers, etc.
The presence of ‘Budang Gadi Fort‘ one of the oldest forts in Sikkim makes Pendam a destination of prodigious heritage value. It is worthwhile to note that the inhabitants of Pendam belongs to diverse cultural backgrounds and this gives the visitor to watch, experience and learn cultural attribute and traditions of them as each of them follow distinctive life styles, food habits, customs and traditions.
